Building the right way is what the Carolina Hurricanes are counting on in an effort to generate sustained momentum. The Boston Bruins are trying to minimize distractions in time to get their season back on track.

With their roster at the minimum number of healthy players to field four lines and six defensemen, the Bruins called up forwards Vinni Letieri (on an emergency basis), Riley Tufte, Patrick Brown and defenseman Ian Mitchell.

The Bruins finished up their final Warrior Ice Arena practice on Wednesday before heading off for a two-game road trip to Carolina (Thursday) and Tampa (Saturday). It’s anyone’s guess how many of the players will not be returning with the team once the deadline is past.

With Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy on the shelf, Charlie Coyle and Brandon Carlo have both been elevated to Bruins’ alternate captains. It’s a proud distinction, an official designation of leadership for a team they’ve spent most of the last decade with.
