Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa won a thrilling women’s race at the London Marathon on Sunday, striding away from everyone else to take victory and set a new women’s-only world record too.

Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia secured her first London Marathon title after pulling away from Joyciline Jepkosgei near the end.

Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa surged to victory in a world record for a women's only field in the London Marathon. The Olympic silver medallist burst clear of 2021 winner Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya with 10km to go before crossing the line in two hours 15 minutes and 50 seconds.
