March 4 — "All options are on the table" for longtime Islanders C Brock Nelson ahead of Friday's deadline, The Athletic reported, including a trade, extension or no movement at all. Nelson, who has spent his entire 12-year career with the Islanders, is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

NHL Insider Nick Kypreos dropped a bombshell as he revealed the Maple Leafs had the best offer for Mikko Rantanen, who was traded elsewhere to Dallas.

As reported by TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, the Oilers made a huge push to trade for Rantanen. They were also reportedly willing to sign him to an extension bigger than the eight-year, $96 million deal he ended up inking with the Stars.

When the Maple Leafs had their first crack at Mikko Rantanen, they chose another right winger, Mitch Marner, instead.

Meantime, Marchand’s departure in Boston, coupled with Charlie Coyle’s trade to Colorado, signaled the Bruins’ transition toward youth while mired in a 1-6-2 skid that has them in jeopardy off missing the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade.
