A lot goes into the production of eggs — and with the Trump administration’s tariff policies potentially affecting costs for chicken feed and equipment, bird flu isn’t the only reason U.S. consumers may continue to pay high prices for eggs at the grocery store.

In his news release, Reed said that the nation's largest egg producer and distributor has profited handsomely during the avian flu outbreak. "Last month, Cal-Maine reported price hikes have been good for business: generating over $350 million in gross quarterly profits, a fourfold increase from a year prior."

The two biggest factors driving egg prices to record levels, but farmers are not getting rich. Expenses remain historically high, and farmers are continuing to fight through the risk of losing their flock to this devastating disease.
