Health officials are contending with an ongoing outbreak of tuberculosis in the Kansas City metro area that reportedly has become the largest in U.S. history.

Health officials in Kansas say they are battling an “unprecedented” tuberculosis outbreak that’s infected at least 146 people in the state’s northeast. As of Friday, there have been 67 confirmed active cases of the bacterial disease,

The state has seen tuberculosis cases double between 2023 and 2024, with the CDC offering support on the ground.
