State media in North Korea says that leader Kim Jong Un has overseen Pyongyang’s latest missile tests, stressing the necessity of the country’s military preparedness.

North Korea launched a series of short-range ballistic missiles during a nuclear counterstrike drill overseen by leader Kim Jong Un, in what state media said was a response to recent nuclear exercises by the United States and South Korea.

North Korea fired what appeared to be multiple short-range missiles off its east coast, South Korea's military said on Thursday. The projectiles were launched from Wonsan, North Korea's eastern coastal city,
